Allan Bennett (1872-1923), a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, was a friend and associate of Aleister Crowley. Bennett assumed the title of Bhikku Ananda Metteya after spending years of Buddhist study and practice in the East. He is said to be the first Western Theravada monk.
