Traditional Witchcraft is a variety of witchcraft that focuses on creating an authentic experience of the traditional pagan religions of germanic countries within a modern context using the best available historical research. Traditional witchcraft often contrasts itself with wicca, which contains many elements adopted from Golden Dawn ceremonial magick and is more a reinvention of paganism than the reconstitution many traditional witches say they want.
Notable differences with wicca include traditional witchcraft's lack of any explicit banishing rituals, a focus on shamanic trance states and an emphasis on polytheism rather than a duotheistic or monistic general principle expressed within particular gods and goddesses.
Traditional witchcraft can be seen as a particular cultural manifestation of the traditional paganism movement.
