Frater DVV (Latin: Dum vivimus, vivamus! "While we live, let us live well!) Pseudonym and outer magickal motto of Stephen Charest, attorney, writer, raconteur, retired military intelligence officer, charmeur, and freelance fanatic.

Charest was born in North Carolina in 1953 and spent most of his youth there except two years each in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. In 1972, in an ill-conceived attempt to avoid the Vietnam draft (and not being as well connected as George W. Bush), he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as an communications intelligence specialist. He studied Chinese, shortly after which he was stationed in Berlin, Germany. Typical military logic. During the course of his twenty-odd years in the military, he learned German, Polish, Spanish, Russian, Czech, and a smattering of other languages.

After retiring from the Air Force in Nebraska, he attended law school and entered private practice. This continues to be his primary visible means of support, aside from recycling rejection notices.

Despite a brief flirtation with matters occult in his late teens, Stephen had virtually no exposure to Thelema until 2003. It was then that he decided he wanted to cease practicing law and set himself up as a cult leader and televangelist -- that being the surest way he could think of to make a great deal of money with minimum effort. However, as he researched various occult and esoteric philosophies, he found that the law of Thelema pretty well covered everything he could have said, and then some. Unfortunately he also recognized that he wouldn't get rich in Thelema, and that it would be a lot of work. Even more unfortunately, it was too late for him to stop. He is now actively pursuing the Man of the Earth degrees in the O.T.O. and magickal initiations along the A.'.A.'. curriculum. He is also working to establish an active Thelema presence in Nebraska.
