The "Proper Sign" and the Gash

I'm no expert, but wouldn't it make more sense to use the solar symbol ⊙? The sun, like the phoenix, dies (sets) and is reborn (arises). This would also allow for the gash to be made in the center of the symbol. The location of the gash ought to be the heart chakra.

From Magick: Book 4 in the chapter titled The Cup

The six-petalled lotus in the heart corresponds to [Tiphareth|Tiphereth], and receives those vital forces which are connected with the blood.

Astrologically, Tiphareth corresponds to the Sun (⊙) and Tiphareth also corresponds to the Phoenix.
